Putting People First
Preferred Mutual Insurance Company was proud to partner with Madison County Rural Health Council to offer employees the opportunity to receive Adult Mental Health First Aid training.

Organized by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training is an evidence-based, early intervention course providing individuals with an action plan to use when a person is experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis, similar to how CPR can be used in a physical emergency.

Together, training attendees consider variety of scenarios and apply MHFA’s non-linear action plan, ALGEE: Assess for risk of suicide or harm; Listen nonjudgmentally; Give reassurance and information; Encourage appropriate professional help; Encourage self-help and other support strategies.

1 in 5 U.S. adults experiences mental illness each year, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. By preparing to provide support for those who might be experiencing a mental health or substance abuse challenge, Mental Health First Aiders are able to appropriately interact with a person in crisis and take necessary steps to connect them with help.

Madison County Rural Health offers MHFA training in both virtual and in-person settings. More than 4.5 million people across the United States have been trained in MHFA by thousands of certified instructors. To find a course near you, visit MHFA.org.
